We visited the Marines at Bethesda Naval Hospital. We met the Lilly Family. Mrs Lilly is a beautiful woman of great character, she asks for nothing and has given everything--her son. He was "IED'ed" and his brain was damaged to the point of being partially removed. The Lilly family was invited to meet President George Bush and his father and dine with them in the White house--not in the paper, hey what?? This couple with their handsome son are upbeat and positive and loving. They've been with their son in the hospital for 6 months and expect at least another year before they return to their home in New Mexico. You should meet these super people.

Dear Jim, I do try to listen to your show every day. The nature of my work makes it darn near impossible. A friend sent me a partial quote by Teddy Roosevelt. I tend to check these at Snopes.com because of the number of mis-quotes clogging my e-mail. I found that what I'd seen was actually an excerpt from a series of speaches on immigration reform. I like to have our politicians hear them. When I read these, Teddy could have been speaking today. They are not racist or biggoted but do reflect real concerns of millions of Americans. If we can invoke the Monroe Doctrine then why not the Roosevelt Doctrine. While Congress may have over-reacted in the past by shutting our doors completely. Maybe we can get past the idea that everyone who wants to come here wants more than our economic advantages. Being allowed to become a citizen requires proof of loyalty to our values. In Europe most countries require the guest workers to register frequently. After a reasonable period of time they cannot return but then somebody else is given an opportunity (e.g. Italian workers in Germany). Jim: I would appreciate your comments on the June 3, 2007 article in the Hartford Courant about Al Gores book, "The Assault On Reason" by Charles Taylor, critic for the Bloomberg News. It was so bias as to be almost profane.Taylor, who passes himself off as a "Critic" merely piggy-backs his obvious hatred of Bush on top of Gores. You may not know that between 50 and 200 Marines 18/19 year olds come into Bethesda with severe wounds--missing body parts and head wounds--bullet wounds are fixed in Iraq. You may not know that for every Military killed 10 to 15 are wounded--a credit to their Medical personnel--but a huge number of wounded. Hopefully they will live to 70 80 or 90--but think of the lives with their disabilities and we are doing this to kids. Also US mail to Bethesda goes thru such excessive testing that it take 8 to 12 weeks to get a letter to them--use FEDEX or UPS.. The "on post" Liasion Marines at Bethesda set up a "free" store where the wounded can come to get toiletries, CD's, clothings, trinkets, and hopefully NEX gift cards. This is staffed and set up by the wives and kids of the on post marines--for their brothers in arms. You may think me an ex marine--but no, I'm ex Navy, but youve got to love these super brave guys and gals. We will go to any length to make their lives better--and we appreciate that you put your voice where your heart is--. Be for the war against it--but these young people MUST follow orders--no matter their beliefs..

Jim, I called Tuesday on the latest grandstanding folly by the People's Republic of New Haven. The dichotomy it promotes is astounding! On the one hand, any illegal (excuse me: "undocumented) alien who waves his card in the face of an annoyed immigration officer may be surprised by the absence of respect it generates. But in another, and more serious sense, the actions of the aldermen and mayor reflect an utter contempt for the rule of law that should not be allowed to stand. Only the Congress of the United States, as enumerated in Article 1, Section 8 has the power to "establish a uniform Rule of Naturalization." If this isn't a cheap parlour trick attempt to do this through the back door, I do not know what is. These actions in effect promote a conspiracy to evade and contravene the law at the very time that a uniform national policy is most necessary. The irony is that the perpetrators are those very blue staters who denounce the President for his alleged violations of the Constitution! But then again, they view themselves as the only ones who truly have have fairness and justice as their private mantras. Under similar circumstances in 1861 Lincoln would probably just have sent the federal marshalls up here to arrest the secessionists!
